What if your clothes, car, or office window could generate electricity from sunlight?
Come along to the next Chester SciBar and hear all about it!
Date and time - Tuesday 13th October - talk starts at 7.30. Doors open at 7pm for mingling, drinks and getting a good seat!
Location: Garrett Bar, Storyhouse in Chester
Title: Organic solar cells, an emerging photovoltaic technology
Abstract: Organic optoelectronic devices, such as organic solar cells, are emerging as a promising technology for harvesting clean energy from the sun, enabling integration into unconventional surfaces such windows, vehicles, and clothes. In this talk, I will begin by explaining the working principle of solar cells, followed by an exploration of nanoscale modelling techniques applied to specific areas of these devices. I will discuss a methodology for predicting exciton and charge transport in organic semiconductor thin films and introduce a platform for assessing and minimising quantum energy barriers at materials interfaces, which is a key factor for enhancing efficiency. This presentation is designed for a general audience, with minimal mathematical background required.
