Not only are they in the same family, cherries, plums, peaches, and almonds are also in the same genus, Prunus. Apples and pears, though in their own genera, are also in the rose family. Interestingly, so many of our most common edible fruits are very closely related. At first glance, their leaves and flowers all bear some similar attributes, but when seen together, the differences are clear.


Please note: Meeting spot is across the street from the American Museum of Natural History at the bronze bust of Alexander Von Humboldt at CPW and West 77th Street. This entrance to the park is aptly called "Naturalists' Gate."
