Checkerboard Suede is a rock-infused blues trio founded by two NCCU Professors, Brett Chambers (Brett's OpenMic), and John Prince (singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer) based in Durham.

Checkerboard Suede grew out of Brett's OpenMic when it was located at Papa Mojo's. Jick Winslow rounds out the band with his impeccable bass lines and harmony vocals. The trio plays a mix of high-energy original and classic blues/rock music, always with a surprise or two during their live shows. A full-length album, Funky Blues and Rock n' Roll, is in production.
