About this Event
ChatRegs23 is an AI workshop event.
We are bringing together a wide range of people researching the risks and ethical impacts of AI as well as those working on how we can responsibly adopt these technologies into Australia. The event is supported by The Dean of Science at The University of Sydney, Professor Marcel Dinger. This is an invitation only event and you will need your invitation code handy to register.
Responding to Government calls for feedback on AI regulations.
On 1st June, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) announced two discussion papers on the governance and regulation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in Australia. Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic MP said in a statement that the government wants to ensure safe and responsible growth of AI in Australia. The papers are intended to start a wider discussion and a feedback window has opened until 26th July. The feedback form consists of twenty questions divided into six sections: definitions, potential gaps in approaches, responses suitable for Australia, target areas, implications and infrastructures, risk-based approaches.
Format
The workshop consists of guided discussions through each of the sections in the DISR feedback form and participants will be asked to electronically share points raised at their discussion tables. As an additional fun exercise, we will be using GPT-4 to aggregate responses and then ask participants to grade how well they think the generated summaries capture the discussions.
The workshop in part builds on the success of the full day conference ChatLLM23 held at The University of Sydney on 28th April which focused on the risks and challenges of generative AI. Speakers from that day have been invited to participate in ChatRegs23, though this follow-up event has a very different format. There will be a few guest speakers providing brief discussion guidance at the start of each section, but the day is focused on participants and sharing of perspectives.
Invitation only
Participation is by invitation only. Invites have gone out to a range of organisations that focus on these issues including university AI-labs, academics, national technology and AI think tanks, government departments, and technology leaders.
To register, you will need the code provided to you in your invitation.
Each ticket must be activated by the registering attendee by 5th July. After that date, unregistered tickets will be cancelled, and unused places will be offered to people on the waiting list.

You may pass this code on to anyone you think would be an appropriate participant. Once the number of attendees registering under that code have been reached the code will no longer work.
All allocated tickets must be confirmed by attendees registering by 5th July. After this date those allocations will be passed on to people on the waiting list to ensure no places go to waste.
If at any time after registering, you find you can no longer attend please cancel your registration. If you would like to give your place to someone else, please contact us and ask for a new code to be allocated for the replacement ticket and we can send it out to you.
