Chat & Chew Community Conversation - Multicultural

You are invited to a community conversation hosted by Gift of Life Donor Program in partnership with the Sullivan Trust. You will hear inspiring stories from donor families who gave, and those who received the gift of life.

Did you know?

• More than half of the people waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in the U.S. are from communities of color.

• One organ donor can save up to 8 lives and a tissue donor can help more than 100 others.

• Education is crucial in providing facts, addressing myths and misconceptions about donation, and highlighting the importance of registering to become an organ and tissue donor.

During this interactive session moderated by Gift of Life staff, presenters will provide background on their experience with the organ donation process. You will have the opportunity to discuss their opinions and views on organ donation and give suggestions on topics to inform our community education program. We value your input. This community conversation is one strategy in an ongoing effort to:

• Encourage family discussion on the decision to donate organs

• Improve donation discussions with family decision makers

• Gain valuable information to inform the creation of culturally sensitive community workshops on organ donation

• Build support for donation and transplantation in black and brown communities to help save more lives

We look forward to working with community members and organizations on this collective effort to register more black and brown organ donors in all communities and build collective wellbeing. We hope this collaboration will result in a deeper understanding of organ donation and access to data, tools, and resources.
