Presented by Author Bill Ludwig
In early 2016 Bill Ludwig discovered both labyrinths and the Camino de Santiago. In 2017 he walked both for the first time. They have changed his life. He has traveled to unexpected destinations, walked across Spain, fallen in love, created a labyrinth for his hometown, walked the famous labyrinth in Chartres, France, and wrote a book. The book was conceived as a project to work on, after returning from the Camino, to help avoid any post-trip depression. It has become its own reward.
Bill will talk about the parallel stories which led to the book and some of the labyrinths he discovered while creating the book. Chasing Labyrinths details 50 labyrinths in Connecticut and 14 in Rhode Island with photos and background story on each. The labyrinth at Wisdom House is the oldest one listed in Connecticut and it spawned many of the others.

Bill Ludwig, a Connecticut native, began life in Woodbridge, CT and is now a long-time resident of Branford, CT. He was a partner for 28 years with Garland Publishing, an academic and science publisher, where he filled various roles as the company grew from its founding in 1969 until its sale in 1997. Following the sale, he took a few years to pursue his love of sailing and travel, obtaining a captain’s license. He sailed the east coast Maine to Florida on his own sailboat, Blue Moon, and captained many boats for others. He has made three trips to Bermuda.
Once settled back on land, he tried his hand at a variety of business before returning to what he knew best, publishing. He founded Hotchkiss Publishing in 2014. This led to a sequence of events guiding him to become interested in labyrinths and he began looking for them wherever he traveled. In the fall of 2017, prior to walking the Camino de Santiago, from Lourdes France, he decided that upon his return he would create a guide book to the labyrinths of CT & RI. Little did he realize that his love of labyrinths would lead him to find the love of his life when he walked one of the few labyrinths along the Camino with a Dutch woman and fell in love. Creating this book took a bit longer than expected as it was interrupted by frequent trips to the Netherlands.
Chasing Labyrinths, Bill’s first book was much more work that he had envisioned as well as more rewarding. However, he looks forward to chasing more labyrinths in New England and elsewhere.
