East Grand Rapids High School will present Charlotte’s Web, based on the classic novel by E.B. White and adapted by Joseph Robinette, as its winter play. The performances are January 30-February 1.Charlotte’s Web tells the memorable story of Wilbur, a little pig who becomes famous with the help of his clever friend Charlotte and their chatty animal neighbors. As the runt of the litter, Wilbur struggles to survive from the very beginning. The farmer’s daughter, Fern, begs her father to raise Wilbur and nurse him to health. Fern succeeds and Wilbur moves to Zuckerman Farm, where he learns the true meaning of friendship from the wise spider Charlotte. When it becomes apparent that Wilbur is being well fed for a reason, Charlotte and Wilbur are determined to foil Mr. Zuckerman’s plans. With the help of Charlotte and her “terrific” webs, Templeton the rat, and other barnyard friends, Wilbur becomes the famous prize-winning pig of the County Fair. Lessons of friendship, loyalty, and truth bind this story together and show that friends come in all shapes and sizes.
Performances will be in the EGRHS Performing Arts Center at 7:00pm on January 30-31 and 2:00pm and 7:00pm on February 1. Following the 2:00pm performance on February 1, children in the audience will have the opportunity to meet the characters from Charlotte's Web and take pictures and collect autographs.
