About this Event

Charleston Oyster Shell Planter Workshop
Benefiting Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network
Join us for a hands-on, Lowcountry-inspired workshop where you’ll create your own tabby-inspired oyster shell planter—a timeless piece rooted in Charleston history.
What is tabby?
Tabby is a historic coastal building material used throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry dating back to the 1700s. Traditionally, it’s made by combining lime, sand, water, and crushed oyster shells—creating a beautifully textured and durable finish seen in historic homes, garden walls, and pathways across the region.
In this workshop, we’ll be creating a modern interpretation of tabby, using concrete blended with sand and real oyster shells to achieve that signature coastal texture and look.
During the workshop, you’ll craft your own oyster shell planter, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece perfect for your porch, garden, or home.
