About the Instructors - Yana & Sergey
Originally from Germany, Yana Frank has lived in Minneapolis for almost 30 years. After studying architecture, she apprenticed in a wood shop in order to learn the practical aspects of furniture making. After years of working as a craftsperson, she recently started her own business combining her woodworking skills with her passion for design. Yana creates unique pieces inspired by the grain and character of the woods she works with. She loves sharing her love of woodworking and has been teaching classes at Woodcraft and Millennium Studios as well as working as a shop supervisor and safety trainer at the University of St. Thomas.
Sergey's blacksmithing journey ignited in 2021 during his inaugural class, where the first swing of the hammer captivated him. Since that transformative moment, he has passionately dedicated himself to the art of blacksmithing. Focusing on creating practical objects for everyday use, such as ornate garden trellises and culinary tools, he is driven by a desire to share his knowledge and passion for blacksmithing. He believes that the preservation and proliferation of traditional crafts are vital for fostering creativity, resilience, and a deeper connection to our past.
