Join us to discuss James McBride's "The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother." McBride wrote this best-selling memoir as a young man, long before his celebrated novels (Deacon King Kong, The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store, and others) were published. Borrow a copy from the book-group set held at the SAP Branch Library: a librarian will get it for you. The Changing Times Book Group focuses on topics of social and environmental justice. All welcome on a drop-in basis. Light refreshments. Details at TransitionASAP.org/changing-times-book-group. The son of a black minister and a woman who would not admit she was white, McBride grew up in the projects of Brooklyn, New York. In this reflection on race and identity, he retraces his own coming of age as well as his mother's story beginning in Poland as a rabbi's daughter.
