Description
Champeta Afrofest Melbourne is a platform for artistic, cultural and community celebration that promotes Champeta as an Afro-Colombian expression of resistance, memory and enjoyment. This new edition of the festival will take place in November 2025 and will feature a varied program designed for all audiences.
Activities:
- Dj presentations: Kaimán Jiménez & Kobra 3000, Champeta Music by: Dj Nikoppix.
- Open champeta classes to learn and enjoy this dance.
- Children's area for the entertainment of the little ones.
- Minimarket with food vendor, turbans, braids, accessories, Colombian and Spanish Language books, and much more.
- Spaces for reflection on music as a tool for identity and transformation.
Objectives:
The festival seeks to strengthen ties between Colombia and the diaspora in Australia, promoting the circulation of musical knowledge, the recognition of Afro-descendant cultures and the creation of spaces of encounter, dignity and collective celebration.
