Psychedelic funk and soul meets golden-era instrumental hip-hop. Featuring members of Polyrhythmics, True Loves and Parlor Greens. Their debut record, “Mixtape: Vol One” is a fantastic voyage from the annals of funkafied late-60’s rare-groove into mid-90’s crate-digger backpack boom-bap; Champagne Bubblebath delivers the goods, a medicinal expression session that’s sure to move the crowd.

Seattle's mega cat makes cinematic instrumental music that feels like alien transmissions from a feline race. Far from background music, the group's songs incorporate unexpected, jazz-like mutations with an out-for-blood punk ferocity. Elements of afrobeat, film score, hip hop, and psychedelia blend to forge mega cat's unique sonic identity. Since the release of their debut self-titled record in 2024, mega cat has been in high demand, opening for the likes of Gene Ween, Michael Rother (Neu!/Kraftwerk), Chuck Prophet, Polyrhythmics, True Loves, and more. Seattle's iconic radio station KEXP immediately embraced the band, inviting mega cat to perform a coveted in-studio session and placing their entire record into rotation. In the week leading up to mega cat's record release, legendary DJ Kevin Cole debuted a track a day, dubbing it "Mega mega cat week." At the band's compositional core is Kim West (keys), Ryan Devlin (bass) and drummer and percussionist Aaron Benson. The three friends started recording what would become mega cat's debut in Aaron's home studio amidst the pandemic lockdown. The live band is filled out by percussionist Jacob Whinnihan (Special Explosion), guitarist CJ Stout (Vendetta Red), saxophonist Peter Daniel (Father John Misty), guitarist Dave Dederer (Presidents of the United States of America), and trombonist Jason Cressey (True Loves). The fully assembled mega cat released an EP at the end of 2024 entitled "Ultramegacat," featuring sonically explosive covers of Beastie Boys' Sabotage, Rage Against the Machine's Bulls on Parade, along with two originals. mega cat is a proud member of the Share It Music label roster, exclusively distributed via Sub Pop Records, with a portion of all record sales benefitting SMASH (Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare). The band is currently in the studio working on LP #2. Expect more alien feline transmission from mega cat in 2026.
