🎻 Local favorites Chamomile & Whiskey bring their rootsy, electric blend of Americana, blues, Celtic, old-time, and Southern songwriting to Rivanna Roots on Saturday, October 3! Founded by Nelson County natives Marie Borgman and Koda Kerl, the band is joined by Sweet Afton, an “Appalachian Dream Pop” band known for double fiddle and lush three-part female harmonies, and Nashville-based folk and country songwriter Leah Grams Johnson.
Born from a late-night combination of chamomile tea and Evan Williams whiskey, Chamomile & Whiskey has grown from deep roots in Americana, blues, Celtic, old-time, and the Southern singer-songwriter tradition. Founded in 2011 by Nelson County natives Marie Borgman and Koda Kerl, the band has evolved into a more electric sound, with Drew Kimball on guitar and Stuart Gunter on drums joining the foundational fiddle-and-guitar sound.
Sweet Afton brings something a little different to the mix. Described as “Appalachian Dream Pop,” the band combines double fiddle and triple female vocal harmonies with vintage country, folk, and indie pop. Marina Madden, Marie Borgman, Hannah Pocock, and Phillip St. Ours will be joined by Cierra Mills on drums and Brian Gregory on bass for this special show.
Leah Grams Johnson brings an authentic blend of Folk and Country shaped by the rugged coast of Northern California, the songwriting traditions of Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell, and more than a decade living and writing in Nashville.
