In anticipation of her upcoming recording of works by Cécile Chaminade, pianist Sarah Hagen presents an evening exploring the life and music of this trailblazing French composer. Now almost completely overlooked, Chaminade was a widely popular musical force at the turn of the 20th century. At the height of her success, there were more than 200 chapters of “Chaminade Clubs”, gatherings to celebrate the composer and to discuss the presence of women on the musical scene. Hagen will host her own version of a Chaminade Club through exquisite piano music and storytelling. Known for her unique, heartfelt interpretations and witty commentary, Hagen tours across Canada and internationally. She has recently returned from a 14 engagement tour throughout England.
The show begins at 7:30 pm and will be approximately 75 minutes long without intermission.
