The Denver Public Library's R.A.D.A. (Read. Awareness. Dialogue. Action) will host a public program exploring BIPOC mental health issues spanning a range of conditions to combat misinformation and the negative and lingering effects of stigmatization in communities. Wellness specialists and panelists including Jason Shankle, Rachel Kelley, and Amber Sherrard will highlight the following topics for discussion moderated by Karen Grissom:
*History of mental health in BIPOC communities
*Access to mental health services
*Dementia and Alzheimers in BIPOC communities, caregivers' roles
*Supporting older adults with dementia
*How do we respond to mental health crises in our library branches in safe and helpful ways as a public service library system?
JaLisa Williams will provide a guided breathwork breakout session.
We hope to encourage open dialogues, cultivate empathy and understanding, and share resources to support individuals and families on their journey toward mental wellness.
