Chalchiuhtlicue: our sacred waters.
Join us for an immersive workshop exploring the rich mythology and cultural significance of Chalchiuhtlicue, the revered Aztec Goddess of freshwater: lakes, ponds, rivers & fertility. This interactive session will delve into her vital role in Nawa cosmology and rituals, examining her connections to nature, agriculture, and the cycles of life. By the end of the workshop, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for her divine influence and how her legacy continues to inspire and shape our understanding of natural harmony and spiritual balance.
We will discuss:
- The Myth
We’ll explore the myths of Chalchiuhtlicue, the Aztec Goddess of freshwater, who embodies the life-giving and destructive powers of lakes, ponds, and rivers. We’ll examine her role in creation and renewal, her impact on life and fertility, and how the Aztecs revered her as a central figure in maintaining cosmic balance.
- The Importance of Water
For the Aztecs, water was sacred and central to their worldview. We’ll explore how Chalchiuhtlicue represents water's vital role in physical and spiritual realms, including its significance in agriculture, sustenance, and hygiene. This understanding will offer insights into how the Aztec reverence for water can inspire modern attitudes toward this precious resource.
- Emotions
Chalchiuhtlicue also impacts our emotional well-being. We’ll explore how water, as embodied by the Goddess, symbolizes emotional currents and healing. Participants will engage in reflective exercises and meditations to connect with their own emotions and find parallels between the Goddess’s powers and their personal experiences of balance.
- Eco-Activism
We’ll also explore how Chalchiuhtlicue’s teachings relate to modern eco-activism. Her role as a water guardian highlights the need for sustainable practices. Participants will discuss how her principles can inspire efforts to conserve water and develop actionable steps for promoting environmental responsibility.
- Ancestors
Honoring Chalchiuhtlicue involves recognizing the Aztecs' deep connection with their ancestors. We’ll explore how her veneration is linked to ancestral worship and the passing of sacred knowledge. Participants will examine rituals celebrating the Goddess and engage in activities that honor their lineage, integrating ancestral teachings into their lives.
