CGR Mural Project: Town Hall Meeting

Creative Girls Rock®️ is excited to collaborate with Elisheba “Queen Bee” Mrozik for another mural project funded by Metro Arts, commemorating the life of Z. Alexander Looby.

Z. Alexander Looby, born in Antigua in 1899, became a pivotal figure in Nashville's civil rights movement. After a career spanning law and academia, he championed desegregation efforts, notably in the landmark case "Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka." His legal defense acquitted many African Americans, and he fought against Jim Crow laws. Looby's home was bombed in 1960, a testament to his activism. He also ventured into politics, serving on the city council and the Metropolitan Council for a total of twenty years. Looby passed away in 1972, leaving a lasting legacy, honored by the Nashville Bar Association and commemorated in the Z. Alexander Looby Library and Community Center.
