CG1 Charcoal Ground Workshop - 1 day

This one-day course focuses on developing the charcoal ground technique introduced in Introduction to Drawing, explored through a sustained self-portrait.
Working from a charcoal ground involves covering the paper with an even mid-tone, then drawing by both adding darker marks and lifting out lighter areas. This allows you to work in a more responsive and direct way, building form, structure, and expression through light and dark.
You will have time to refine your control and understanding of this process, with guidance from the tutor throughout to support close observation and the development of a considered, personal drawing.
This course is open to anyone with some drawing experience who would like to deepen their understanding of tone and charcoal.
