20th Annual SDSU César E. ChávezCommemorative Scholarship Luncheon

Join us as we honor the life and legacy of César E. Chávez, a champion of nonviolent social change who organized tens of thousands of people toward improving the treatment and conditions for farm workers.
The SDSU César E. Chávez commemorative planning committee returns to campus to host a luncheon, including table sponsorship and a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the SDSU César E. Chávez Commemorative Scholarship fund. The fund supports multiple scholarships, aiding students who represent the values and social justice spirit of Chávez. This year’s student recipients will be recognized at the luncheon.
We will also recognize community members who exemplify the teachings of Chávez. This year, we are pleased to recognize David Valladolid, SDSU alumni and former president and CEO of the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), which was established in 1987. PIQE's mission is to empower parents with the skills needed to foster productive partnerships with educators and school administrators. David is also a Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, having served as chief of staff to Assemblyman Peter Chacón, the first Mexican American to represent San Diego in the State Legislature.
The program will also include performances by the Grupo de Danza Folklorica Mexicana Wa-kushmaa and Mariachi Garibaldi from Southwestern College. We invite you to wear your favorite guayabera or huipil to the luncheon.
The scholarship committee identifies many outstanding students who are examples of the spirit and legacy of Chávez, but can only fund a few individuals. We need your help to increase the scope and depth of the impact on the lives of these students. Please consider making an annual contribution or if you already give, consider increasing the amount of your annual contribution.
