About this Event
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects within their community.
Experience has shown that following a major disaster, emergency resources are quickly depleted. Individuals and neighborhoods must be self-reliant for the first 24 to 72 hours.
To assist residents and visitors of The City of Palm Desert in preparing for potential disasters, the CERT program has been developed.
CERT is a 20-hour Course that is FEMA-certified.
The minimum age is 16. Registration is required.
The course requires completing all three days for a total of 20 hours for a certificate of completion.
