Ceramics Handbuilding 101

Learn the fundamentals of pinch pots, coil building, and slab rolling, as well as surface texturing techniques, to create unique functional and sculptural pieces. Perfect for beginners, this course emphasizes hands-on practice, creativity, and craftsmanship.

This class is structured for those with little-to-no ceramics expereince, or potters without handbuilding experience. Small class sizes and experiened instrutctors who meet you where you are ensure that each student gets full value from the course.

What you'll learn:

1. Introduction to Ceramics: Understand the basics of ceramic handbuilding, including forming, drying, bisque firing, glazing and high firing.
2. Pinch Pot Technique: Learn the pinch pot method and apply it to create a functional or sculptural piece.
3. Coil Building Technique: Master coil building using both hand-rolled coils and a wall extruder, focusing on blending and shaping techniques.
4. Slab Rolling & Texture Application: Gain hands-on experience using a slab roller and texture stamps to form geometric shapes like boxes.
5. Basic Glazing: Demonstrate basic glazing techniques including wax resist bottoms and single dip glazing.
