Kickstart your journey with an intriguing demonstration of slip casting a ceramic mold. We will demonstrate the process of pouring into the mold, cleaning the piece, and understanding the firing process that brings clay to life as beautiful ceramic art. Please note, this demonstration piece won't be the one you'll work on, as your masterpiece needs to be in bisque form, which means post-firing.
Paint Your Masterpiece
With your selected piece at hand, you'll then dive into the color palette. Using the dry brushing technique, you'll imbue your ceramic piece with your unique style and creativity, transforming it into a vibrant work of art.
What is Dry Brushing?
Dry brushing is a painting technique often used in ceramics to highlight the detailed texture and intricate design elements of a piece. It involves applying a small amount of paint to a brush, then wiping off most of it on a dry cloth or paper towel before lightly brushing over the ceramic surface, gradually getting lighter as the hue lightens. This results in a light dusting of gradient color that settles primarily on the raised portions of the texture, leaving recessed areas darker and creating a depth and richness to the piece.

Four weeks prior to the retreat, we'll involve you in deciding the three different ceramic pieces options – we have hundreds of ceramic molds to choose from including angels, animals, vases, gnomes, mushrooms, and so much more.
