Ceramic Social Club - Figure Sculpting

This small group workshop invites you into an intimate Brooklyn home studio setting where we’ll slow down and study the shapes, movement, and subtle details that make the human body such a compelling subject in sculpture. With only a handful of participants, the experience is designed to feel focused, relaxed, and creatively supportive.

Working from anatomy for the artist books, you’ll learn foundational techniques for building and shaping the figure in clay. We’ll cover proportion, gesture, and simple sculptural methods that help bring form and expression into your work. The goal is not perfection, but observation, exploration, and the pleasure of working with your hands.

Throughout the session, you’ll receive guidance and demonstrations while still having plenty of space to experiment and develop your own interpretation of the figure. Beginners are absolutely welcome, and those with prior experience will have room to deepen their practice.

Small group workshops create a unique studio atmosphere. There’s often a quiet rhythm that forms as everyone settles into the process—hands in clay, conversation flowing naturally, and the collective focus that comes from making alongside others.

All materials, clay, and tools are provided. Sculptures will remain at the studio to be dried and fired after the workshop, and participants will be able to pick up their finished pieces 4-6 weeks after the workshop... you'll recieve an email.

Jazmin Swanson is a Brooklyn-based ceramic artist and educator with nearly a decade of teaching experience. She previously founded and operated a community pottery studio in Downtown San Diego with sixteen wheels and hundreds of students before shifting toward a more intimate studio model centered around craft, creativity, and meaningful connection through clay.

Her teaching style blends technical guidance with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where students feel encouraged to explore, experiment, and develop their own artistic voice.
