Centering on the Margins: Oppressive Trauma Informed Care

The term "trauma informed care" has become popularized in medical, mental health, educational, and numerous other social service settings. However, the traditional understanding and research base of trauma informed care falls short in their attention to historical trauma and how they uniquely impact marginalized communities. Jamil Stamschror-Lott, CEO and Co-founder of Creative Kuponya, will share about the paradigm of "Oppressive Trauma Informed Care"; and present evidence-based strategies to address oppression in healing work.

After their combined experiences in the traditional mental health model, Jamil and Sara Stamschror-Lott co-founded Creative Kuponya in 2017 to provide therapy without the barriers of forced diagnosis. After losing their offices in the civil unrest following the M**der of George Floyd, they developed their theory of Transformative Community Healing and began the CK Therapy Fund to provide therapy without barriers.
