With her heady early stint fronting feisty pop/rockers Speedway firmly in the rear-view mirror, Paisley-born singer-songwriter Jill Jackson is now a rapidly ascendant star of UK Americana. Working solo since 2005, she inaugurated her career reinvention with a pilgrimage to Nashville’s Bluebird Café, and subsequently toured all 50 US states in 50 days. Her musical dues thus paid several times over, Jackson’s evolving stylistic palette shifts sure-footedly through shades of country, old-time, pop, jazz and vintage rock’n’roll, united by her tautly expressive songcraft and spellbinding voice. Tonight’s set previews material from her sixth solo album, due in February 2022. Also distilling her own distinctive sound from the vast Americana melting-pot is Bristol native Lady Nade (aka Nadine Gingell). It’s a blend more potent than ever on 2021’s third album Willing, whose songs draw deep from the wells of blues, soul and folk, while Gingell’s resonant old-soul vocals speak powerfully to her own time and place.
