Join us for the monthly revival of the classic Bay Area alternative milonga in our gorgeous East Bay space every first Wednesday of the month! We offer a deeply community-oriented, queer- and switch-friendly event featuring a beginner-friendly pre-milonga class & a danceable mix of alternative + traditional music.
This month's theme: Red & Gold!
May is a month for solidarity, roses in bloom, and the first red plums of summertime. Get festive with us in your red & gold finest!
7:00-8:00: all-level class with James Kang
8:00-11:00pm: Mixed Alt/Traditional Milonga with DJ Jordana
$10-40 sliding scale
Venmo or cash at the door
Parking note: there's plenty of nearby parking, but our hosts request that we kindly not park on 37th Street east of the big gates by the church, so that the local neighbors can park when they get home from work and will welcome us back for future events! The BART garage two blocks away is free.

CODE OF CONDUCT:
- Although this is an alternative event, we do still encourage the use of the tango codigos, *especially* regarding entering/exiting the dancefloor, respecting the line of dance, and dancing in a way that respects the space and safety of your partner and those around you.
- If someone seems to be avoiding your cabaceo, or if you ask someone to dance and they say no, don't press or pursue! The intimacy of tango works by consent, which means no one should feel pressured to say yes to an interaction that doesn't feel right for them in that moment. Likewise, if for any reason you feel the need to exit a dance for your own safety or comfort, saying "thank you" should be respected as an ending to the dance without argument or caveat.
- We know that alternative music can sometimes inspire us to larger movements, so for everyone's shared safety *please* keep your ganchos and boleos contained, and **absolutely no lifts on the social floor**. (Even if you know you can do them safely, others may see you doing them and attempt movements that aren't safe for them or their partners.)
- We strive to create a truly welcoming & heartfelt space. If you feel that someone is behaving in a way that compromises your ability to feel safe & comfortable, *please* let your hosts know immediately. We reserve the right to politely unwelcome anyone we feel is compromising the safety & integrity of the event.
- This is a switch-friendly and queer-friendly event! We actively encourage dancers in our space to explore both roles and refrain from making assumptions about other dancers' preferred roles or pronouns.
We welcome beginners, although we recommend that folks have some experience with tango before attending. Questions? Please come find your friendly hosts! We'll be available to explain the codigos and other conventions of the social tango if you would like to learn more about them.
