AUSTA SA Adult Cello & Bass Weekend 2026
After the success of our first adults-only cello weekend, we're back for a second year — and this time we're delighted to welcome our double bass colleagues to join the fun!
Together, we'll take a musical journey around the world, exploring folk tunes and traditional melodies from a variety of cultures and countries.
All playing levels are welcome. Whether you're a complete beginner, returning to your instrument after a break, or an experienced player, there will be music and parts to suit everyone. The weekend is designed to be inclusive, supportive, and enjoyable for all participants.
More than just a music workshop, this is an opportunity to share great food, make new friends, and enjoy the unique sense of connection that comes from making music together.
Come along for a weekend of music, laughter, learning, and community.
There will be a free and informal concert on the Sunday afternoon for you to invite family and friends.
What participants said about last year's event:
“The AUSTA cello weekend was a kind and affirming experience for a fresh cellist such as myself. Meeting fellow c string lovers and getting to see the joyful place that the cello sits the lives of each of the attendees was truly wonderful and gave me great appreciation for the cello and for its place in my life. Despite my initial slight resistance in being given a solo, I secretly adored getting that opportunity to really challenge and test myself in an environment where the stakes are remarkably non-existent. The socialising was enriching as each person was there for the same love-of-cello, and the food was warm and nourishing. I think there is much that future attendees can and will get from these weekends and look forward to attending the next one.”
“The AUSTA SA Cello Ensemble Weekend was incredibly supportive and motivating. It was a joy to be guided by people with such extensive experience as teachers, writers of music and cellists. I learnt so much from the facilitators and also all the other participants. It was an incredibly open and supportive forum with opportunities to talk about experiences learning the cello and to learn from others. I always felt that I could ask for clarification when needed and it was wonderful how more experienced players spent time playing with beginners. It did not matter what knowledge and skill you brought to the weekend; I found that I could participate and learn along the way. The sound of all those cellos together was amazing and I am motivated now to improve in my playing so that I can play more music and grow in my ability to play in group settings.”
“Yes, I felt scared, but I am so glad that I pushed through my imposter syndrome because I was encouraged through attending and now I will feel much more excited when the next opportunity arises. The atmosphere is one of encouragement and not judgement so if you are unsure, just go!”
"The weekend was a friendly experience. I felt so good with the other cellists there. Anna and Jozefein looked after us so well musically with the interesting cello parts written for us, and their attentive guidance in rehearsals. I look forward to the next cello ensemble weekend."
