Celestial Light

As we head into the season of long, warm days, we turn our thoughts to spiritual light and the rays of divine glory so brilliantly illuminated in sacred song. Light and angels have long been intertwined, and the music of this concert will highlight that connection. The ideas of light and angels inspired Hildegard of Bingen’s most virtuosic pieces, and she was not alone: some of the era’s most glorious melodies bloomed under godly light. This program will feature several of Hildegard’s light-inspired settings along with related repertoire from France, England, and Spain.
