About this Event

Morningside Presbyterian Church brings together four of Atlanta's most powerful voices for CelebrATL!, an amazing concert benefiting The Nancy Frampton Rising Artists Series. Featured singers include Met Opera alum and award-winning bass vocalist Morris Robinson, along with three brilliant, in-demand sopranos -- Indra Thomas, Talise Trevigne, and Jeanné Brown.


BASS VOCALIST MORRIS ROBINSON

A GRAMMY® Award-winning artist, Robinson is featured on the recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (“Symphony of a Thousand”) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by conductor Gustavo Dudamel. His impressive career regularly brings him to the world’s premier stages. He has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in roles such as Sarastro in “Die Zauberflöte,” Ferrando in “Il Trovatore,” the King in “Aida” and in productions like “Nabucco,” “Tannhäuser,” “Les Troyens” and “Salome.” He has performed at the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Teatro alla Scala and Opera Australia, among others.

Robinson’s concert engagements are equally illustrious. He has performed with top-tier orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where he served as an artist-in-residence for the 2015-16 season. His festival appearances include the BBC Proms, Ravinia, Mostly Mozart, Tanglewood and Aspen. His solo album “Going Home” was released on the Decca label.


AMERICAN SOPRANO INDRA THOMAS

Known for her lush and warm voice, Indra Thomas has established herself as an artist of incredible sensitivity, poise, and virtuosity. Currently teaching as Artist in Residency at Berry College in Rome Georgia, she is a graduate of Shorter College with Bachelor of Music in Performance and received an Artistic Diploma from the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia. With a prolific career in opera and stage, she has been featured in lead operatic roles and as a soloist and recitalist nationally and internationally. She can also be seen in the Academy Award-winning movie Driving Ms. Daisy, as the featured soloist in the funeral scene, and in the movie The Upside, playing the “Queen of the Night” in the opera scene. Along with stage and screen, Ms. Thomas is a recording artist with a solo album entitled Great Day! Indra Thomas Sings Spirituals, found on all streaming platforms, and on a Grammy nominated recording of Micheal Tippett’s A Child of Our Time with the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2003, Ms. Thomas was nominated for an Emmy for the nationally televised Live from Lincoln Center’s production of Porgy and Bess Suite conducted by Lorin Maazel and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She was awarded the Joseph R. Biden President’s Volunteer Service and Lifetime Achievement Award along with a Signature Award from the Metropolitan Atlanta Musicians Association.


AMERICAN SOPRANO TALISE TREVIGNE

Career highlights for American soprano Talise Trevigne include her celebrated portrayal in the title role Porgy and Bess at The Atlanta Opera; she returned as a TAO Company Principal Artist in Season 2020/21 as Nedda I Pagliacci. She joined Cincinnati Symphony for her concert debut with Louis Langree and appeared at Cincinnati Opera in their Gala season opening presenting material from their upcoming production of Castor and Patience in which she soon sings the title role. Trevigne played the role of Sunny desert in for Boston Lyric Opera in their exciting new episodic opera series devised for the small screen, curated and directed by James Darrah. Previous highlights include her return appearance with CBSO for Tippett’s A Child of our Time in performances in the UK and Germany conducted by Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla.

In concert, the artist’s appearances include Cantaloube's Chants D'Auvergne, Satie's Socrate, Mahler's Second Symphony and Fourth Symphony, Barber's Prayers of Kierkegaar, Strauss' Vier letzte Liederand Four Last Songs and Carmina Burana. Talise Trevigne studied at the Manhattan School of Music and graduated with her Master’s in Music. While still a student, she made her operatic debut under the direction of Julius Rudel as Violetta La Traviata and Zerlina Don Giovanni at the Aspen Music Festival. Ms. Trevigne teaches vocal studies at The Georgia State University School of Music in Atlanta.


AMERICAN SOPRANO JEANNÉ BROWN

Since her professional debut with Robert Shaw, Jeanné Brown has touched the souls of her audiences with her “consistently exciting… and radiantly beautiful” classical, operatic and spiritual performances on the concert stage. She has appeared as featured soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Flagstaff (AZ) Arts Festival and the Moja Festival in Charleston, SC. Operatic roles include Micaela in Carmen with the Providence Opera Theater, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos and Monica in The Medium with the Atlanta Opera. Other career highlights are the national and international tour of Houston Grand Opera’s production of Porgy and Bess, and leading roles in premiere performances of Zabette (Curtis Bryant) and The Opera Singer (Sharon Willis).

In addition to her active performance schedule, Ms. Brown offers master classes and vocal music teaching and consultation. She is currently residing in the Atlanta area.
