A celebration of life for Jon Ritchie will be held at Freedom Fellowship Church, New Braunfels on Saturday December 3rd at 2pm.
Jon Lyndon Ritchie, of New Braunfels, TX, passed away on October 31, 2022. He was born to Donald Erbin Ritchie and Wanda Woods Ritchie on January 9, 1954. He grew up in Texas and Oklahoma, his family finally settling in Odessa, so that he could play football at Permian High School in Odessa, TX. He then went on to play at Cisco Junior College until he began working in the West Texas oilfields. He went on to become a licensed Master Plumber. He spent many years traveling the highways of Texas, taking his children, nieces, and nephews on many great adventures during school breaks.
Jon was an avid hunter, fisherman and above all else a conservationist. He greatly enjoyed his time outdoors with family and friends, especially when teaching younger generations outdoor skills. He was proud to hold a yearly fishing tournament for his grandchildren, and happily accepted his award for the smallest catch the first year. He always enjoyed hearing hunting stories from younger generations and had a few of his own to share that always impressed the grandchildren.
Jon will be best remembered as “Papa Jon” by most, being a father figure to many. He was a compassionate and caring individual that served his life bringing joy to others, often times through his joking manner or in his cards with notes written upside down. He will be remembered by many for his selflessness for others, instilling hope in those less fortunate, and having an intuition of knowing where he could best serve others.
Jon was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Ritchie, and his little brother, Cory Ritchie. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ritchie, whom he was married to for the last 26 years. He adored her and enjoyed every moment with her, spending much time gardening and tending to their property. He is also survived by his children, Sarah Baimbridge of Kerrville, TX, Russell Ritchie of Adkins, TX, Anna Bible of New Braunfels, TX, Michael Hayes of New Braunfels, TX, and his mother, Wanda Woods Springer of New Braunfels, TX. He also found hope in the future through his grandchildren, Cheyenne Sweet, Jackson Sweet, Jasara Bible, Mikey Hayes, Kip Baimbridge, Liliane Baimbridge, Evelyn Hayes, Garrett Hayes, Charlotte Hayes, and Reid Lyndon Ritchie.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Freedom Fellowship Church in New Braunfels on December 3, 2022 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Texas Kidney Foundation.
