Celebration of Life – Dr. Shinichi HirokawaDr. Shinichi “Shin-san” Hirokawa of Torrance, California, passed away on December 24, 2025, at age 62.
He was a devoted educator and Assistant Professor at Westcliff University, singer and master of ceremonies, lead vocalist of Team Kawachi Ondo, and President of the L.A. Kansai Club. Born in Niigata, Japan, he earned degrees in English Literature, Project Management (MBA), and International Business (DBA). After moving to the U.S. in 2002, he dedicated himself to education, cultural expression, and community service.
Known for performing entirely from memory, Dr. Hirokawa co-founded Team Kawachi Ondo with his partner, Fumio Maruyama (Moo), and brought joy to audiences across Southern California and beyond. He is remembered for his down-to-earth, warmly approachable personality and commitment to building connections through music, education, and leadership.
