About the Book:
In Black Women Taught Us: An Intimate History of Black Feminism, Jenn M. Jackson, PhD, illuminates the profound impact of Black women’s freedom fighting and its erasure from mainstream historical narratives. Through eleven deeply personal and historically grounded essays, Jackson repositions the intellectual and political work of Black women—from Harriet Jacobs and Ida B. Wells to the Combahee River Collective and Audre Lorde—at the center of liberation movements.
This collection is both a love letter to the fore strugglers and a clarion call for the next generation of organizers, offering critical insights into the fight against racism, gender oppression, and societal injustices.
About the Author:
Jenn M. Jackson, PhD, is an award-winning professor of political science at Syracuse University and a celebrated columnist for Teen Vogue. Known for their “Speak On It” column, they explore how social and political life today is shaped by racial and gender (dis)order.
A queer, genderflux, androgynous Black woman, Dr. Jackson’s research focuses on Black Politics, Black Feminism, racial trauma and threat, gender and sexuality, and social movements. Black Women Taught Us is their powerful debut book.
