Join an afternoon of conversation and celebration of THE ASIANADIAN, an Asian Canadian magazine published from 1978 to 1985.
About this Event

From 1978 to 1985, the Asianadian Resource Workshop published THE ASIANADIAN, one of Canada’s first anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-homophobic magazines. Through art, activism, and bold critique, the magazine sparked a national dialogue on the struggles and social issues facing Asian Canadians, while creating a platform for emerging writers, artists, musicians, activists, and scholars.

This year marks 40 years since its last issue was published. To celebrate its legacy, Angie Wong — author of — will join a panel discussion featuring members who played pivotal roles in the magazine’s publication. The panel will be followed by an “open mic” session, inviting event attendees to share their memories and thoughts on the lasting impact of the magazine on cultivating Asian Canadian cultural identity and political consciousness. A selection of archival materials from the Asianadian Resource Workshop will also be on public display for the first time.

Come for an afternoon of conversation and celebration of THE ASIANADIAN with members of the Asianadian Resource Workshop. Registration is optional, but highly encouraged – let organizers know you will be in attendance and share a memory.

This program is presented through the collaboration of the Toronto Public Library Chinese Canadian Archive and the University of Toronto Libraries Richard Charles Lee Chinese Canadian Archives.
