Join us in la Grande Salle for the first event in a series celebrating the 1,000th Jubilee of Chartres Cathedral. Organized by The American Friends of Chartres, these lectures will be led by MJ McGregor, Ph.D. To learn more about the series, visit this webpage: https://www.afmsp.org/cathdrale-de-chartres?rq=chartres#/ For this first event, we will broadcast a recorded lecture organized by the American Friends of Chartres on May 14, 2024. In this lecture, Robert Bork and Ellen Shortell use modern laser techniques to explore the geometric principles underlying the cathedral's remarkable proportions and architectural features.
The lecture will begin with introductory remarks by MJ McGregor, Ph.D. referencing the original quarry, medieval tools, and campaign crews that created a harmonious whole over its mere 30 years of construction.
ABOUT MJ MCGREGOR
MJ McGregor, Ph.D. lives seasonally with her husband in Chartres in a 15th century pied-a-terre, is an English-speaking tour guide for Chartres Cathedral, leads pilgrimage and retreats to Chartres Cathedral, France and serves on the Advisory Board of the American Friends of Chartres.
