You’re Invited: Celebrating Our Continued Level II Arboretum Accreditation!
Join us at the Mary Price Ratrie Arboretum at Spring Hill Cemetery as we celebrate achieving Level II Accreditation through ArbNet!
This milestone reflects our continued commitment to urban forestry, tree diversity, and public education right here in Charleston. Whether you’re a big fan of trees or just love spending time outdoors in Charleston, come hang out with us for a quick presentation and a guided stroll around the grounds.
Arborist Chris Higgins will share an insightful PowerPoint presentation in the Mausoleum, detailing our collection, the accreditation process, and what this achievement means for our community.
Following the presentation, Chris will lead a short walking tour through the grounds to highlight featured tree species, notable specimens, and seasonal highlights of the arboretum. (We’ll have light refreshments to grab, too! Just be sure to throw on a pair of comfy walking shoes and dress for the weather).
RSVP: Please let us know if you plan to attend by contacting [email protected] so we can plan accordingly.
We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with you!
ArbNet (found at arbnet.org) is an interactive, international community and accreditation program dedicated specifically to arboreta and tree-focused professionals.
Founded in 2011 by The Morton Arboretum in partnership with the American Public Gardens Association and Botanic Gardens Conservation International, ArbNet serves several main purposes:
The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program: It runs the only international accreditation program specifically for arboreta. It evaluates sites on a 4-level system based on criteria like tree collection size and diversity, professional staffing, educational events, scientific research, and conservation efforts.
The Morton Register of Arboreta: It maintains a global database and register of tree-focused organizations, including public gardens, university campuses, parks, and cemeteries.
Resource Sharing & Networking: It helps tree care organizations, urban foresters, and public grounds share knowledge, guidelines, funding opportunities, and best practices for tree conservation and public education.
