Event Overview

Join us for a vibrant cultural experience honouring the rich traditions, stories, and artistry of Torres Strait Islander Peoples. This interactive event invites community members to learn, connect, and celebrate through storytelling, visual culture, and traditional food.

Program Highlights

Yarning Circle – Storylines & Cultural Knowledge all participate will be guided in a yarning circle exploring Torres Strait Islander history, identity, and storytelling practices. This session encourages open conversation, cultural learning, and shared understanding.

Cultural Showcase – Traditional Props & Visual Displays you will experience an immersive display of Torres Strait Islander cultural items, including:

  • warup (traditional drum)
  • Kulap (shakers)
  • Dhari (ceremonial headpiece)
  • Vibrant dance costumes
  • Handcrafted tools
  • Woven baskets
  • Striking island imagery and visual storytelling

These items will be shared through yarning, demonstration, and cultural explanation.

Light Lunch is provided including:

Traditional Torres Strait Islander Cuisine Test & Tasting - Participants will have the opportunity to taste authentic Torres Strait Islander flavours and learn about the cultural significance for everyone to enjoy.
