We are celebrating our 7th anniversary on November 23, 2024!

For the past seven years, OSCAM has been a vibrant platform for contemporary art and culture, showcasing the creativity and diversity of artists from various backgrounds. Our mission has always been to stand for inclusivity and to celebrate the beauty of diverse cultures. This special milestone will be marked with a tribute to the richness of Surinamese heritage.

It’s no coincidence that OSCAM’s official anniversary date aligns with Surinamese Independence Day, celebrated on November 25th. This year, we proudly spotlight the work of multidisciplinary artist Meredith Joeroeja, whose creations are deeply rooted in her Surinamese Indigenous and Maroon heritage. Her art reflects the intersection of history, identity, and culture, offering a powerful exploration of both personal and cultural narratives.

Through this exhibition, we invite you to embark on a visual and sensory journey that honors both the past and the present, connecting Surinamese history with contemporary artistic expression. Meredith Joeroeja’s work stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of her ancestors while celebrating the innovation and creativity of today’s artistic landscape.

Viering 7-jarig jubileum van OSCAM: Een ode aan kunst en cultuur

Al zeven jaar is OSCAM een levendig platform voor hedendaagse kunst en cultuur, waar de creativiteit en diversiteit van kunstenaars uit verschillende achtergronden centraal staan. Onze missie is altijd geweest om inclusiviteit te bevorderen en de schoonheid van diverse culturen te vieren. Dit bijzondere jubileum markeren we met een eerbetoon aan de rijke Surinaamse erfenis.

Het is geen toeval dat de officiële verjaardag van OSCAM samenvalt met de Surinaamse Onafhankelijkheidsdag, die op 25 november wordt gevierd. Dit jaar zetten we trots het werk van multidisciplinair kunstenaar Meredith Joeroeja in de spotlight. Haar creaties zijn diep geworteld in haar Surinaams Inheemse en Marron afkomst. Haar kunst weerspiegelt de kruising van geschiedenis, identiteit en cultuur, en biedt een krachtige verkenning van zowel persoonlijke als culturele verhalen.

Met deze tentoonstelling nodigen we je uit voor een visuele en zintuiglijke reis die zowel het verleden als het heden eert. Meredith Joeroeja’s werk is een eerbetoon aan de blijvende kracht van haar voorouders, terwijl het tegelijkertijd de innovatie en creativiteit van het hedendaagse kunstlandschap viert.
