About this Event

Exploring Klezmer: Ashkenazi Music and Songs

Join in the fun! Learn about different musical instrument families (woodwind, string, and brass) and sing along to a lively set of traditional klezmer tunes played on clarinet, violin, trombone, and double bass. Band members will share klezmer music and its significance in secular Ashkenazi Jewish culture both in Eastern Europe and in the United States. Sing along to songs with Yiddish lyrics and discover popular Yiddish words!

The Celebrate! series, appropriate for family audiences and children ages 5 and up, highlights America’s rich cultural diversity through the arts. This program is tied directly to President and Mrs. Kennedy's concern for and support of the arts and culture in a democratic society. Thanks to generous support from AT&T, the Martin Richard Foundation, and the Mass Cultural Council all performances are free.
