ABOUT ELISE BURKE BROWN'S CHASE HARLEM:
For fans of Terri Parlato's All the Dark Places and Kate Alice Marshall's What Lies in the Woods, a suspenseful mystery set in the heart of New Orleans, where an ex-FBI agent confronts crime, chaos, and dark secrets.
In the colorful chaos of New Orleans, Chase Harlem has three essentials for happiness: her trusted red Converse, a reliable taser, and a good sense of humor to survive it all. All she wants is a simple life – morning jogs in cemeteries, jazz that soothes the soul, and enough quirky cases to pay the bills without summoning her FBI past.
But when a priest waltzes into her office with a divine mandate to crack a grisly double homicide involving an LSU football star and his actress girlfriend, Chase's plans for peace get thrown out like last week's gumbo, especially when the priest's estranged son lands square in the NOPD's crosshairs.
With her best friend, a "maybe" boyfriend, and a teenage neighbor who's too curious for her own good, Chase dives headfirst into a case that reminds her why she took up drinking in the first place.
From jazz joints to voodoo shops, Chase Harlem's escapades through the Big Easy are a mix of mayhem and mirth as she juggles clues, cocktails, and the occasional alligator. Can she crack the case before it cracks her, or will she end up as the city's next ghost tour attraction?
In this puzzle through the Crescent City, author Elise Burke Brown serves up a gumbo of mystery, mischief, and a side of sass that'll leave readers thinking of the story long after the final page turns.
ABOUT ELIZABETH ESSEX'S (Hobbs) M**der MADE HER WICKED
Aspiring archaeologist Marigold Manners bicycles back into adventure in Elizabeth Hobbs’ next mesmerizing historical mystery.
“A humdinger…whose characters bring to mind those of both Emily Brontë and L.M. Montgomery” (Kirkus), this second installment is perfect for fans of Deanna Raybourn.
1894, Boston. Penniless Boston heiress and accomplished modern woman Marigold Manners has put her past to good use, selling the story of the Great Misery Island Murders to earn enough money to resume the life she was always meant to have and return to her studies at Wellesley College. But her carefully laid plans for academic excellence are thrown into disarray when she stumbles across the body of a young woman in the campus lake.
When the peace of the bucolic campus is shattered by the M**der, the cloistered world of a women’s college that Marigold finds so comforting proves it is not immune to the malice and wickedness of the world. The closed community becomes a hothouse where disparagement blooms into insult and small slights that have festered for years blossom into academic rivalries that could spill over into something far more sinister. Marigold must use every ounce of her logic, enlist her eccentric, colorful cast of fellow students and found-family to identify the girl and find the murderer – before they K*ll again.
ABOUT MANDA COLLINS' A WALLFLOWER'S GUIDE TO VISCOUNTS AND VICE
A sunshine spinster and a grumpy viscount use their fake engagement to solve a M**der mystery in the first book of a new series from Manda Collins.
A wallflower by choice, wealthy Lucy Penhallow would rather sit out the dancing all season than listen to false flattery from the fortune hunters who pursue her. But when she and her best friend’s brother witness a crime in progress, they’ll need to put every skill Lucy’s learned from reading detective stories to the test in their hunt for a missing woman. And if Viscount Gilford happens to be handsome as sin and clever to boot? Well, that's no hardship for her.
Viscount Gilford needs a wife to save him from financial ruin, and there’s only one heiress who’s off limits. So when he and Lucy find themselves inextricably linked in the tabloids, it’s a disaster. As their investigation progresses, their once unwelcome alliance becomes something more—a love match neither will give up. But there’s a killer watching their romance from the wings who’s only too happy to keep these meddlesome sleuths together . . . in the afterlife.
