CELEBRATE MICRONESIA FESTIVAL 2022: BELONGING
We celebrate our many rich connections and points of belonging across time, place, and ocean. During the festival we will share cultural art, performances, poetry, stories, and resources of the islands of Micronesia. We invite you to join us in this celebration of Micronesian cultures and connections. There will be live-streaming of events-on-the ground as well as virtual components. Programming to be announced.

Discover objects from Micronesia from the Bishop Museum collection in the Atrium of Hawaiian Hall
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Native Garden Tours
Enjoy a walk at your own pace through Nā Ulu Kaiwiʻula Native Hawaiian Garden and use our QR code-accessible audio tours to learn about what endemic plant species are only found in Hawaiʻi and which indigenous Oceanic plants are shared between our islands and Micronesia

Enjoy a 45min full-dome program that puts you on the deck of the voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa. The recovery of traditional navigation in Hawaiʻi would not have been possible without Mau Piailug from the Micronesian island of Satawal. Seating is limited, tickets must be reserved at Admissions or Hoʻokipa Desk

Join us for a panel discussion and presentation in the Atrium of the Hawaiian Hall to learn about tattooing traditions in Micronesia. Speakers include Su’a Sulu’ape Aisea, Jermy Uowolo, and Rodney Ni Powell. In conjunction with the talk, see the exhibit Tatau: Marks of Polynesia on view in the J.M. Long Gallery
