About this Event
Join us as we celebrate Maya Angelou's 97th Birthday throughout the month of April, including on April 24, when we recognize two truly phenomenal women whose life work mirrors the "Spirit of Maya." This year's awardees are Korto Momolu, global designer, and Florence Price, musician and composer - honored posthumously. The event is set to the music of Florence Price by Mezzo Soprano Nishiddah Price, and accompanist Pianist Linda Holzer, music professor.

Inspired by her African roots, Liberian born fashion designer and stylist Korto Momolu (pronounced CUT- TOE MOE-MOE-LOO) is stamping her global brand in fashion. With a women’s wear and accessory line that celebrate the essence of her rich heritage through the use of tradiGonal, luxury fabrics.

Florence Beatrice Price was born April 9, 1888 in Little Rock Arkansas. She studied composition and organ at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and afterwards taught as a pianist in the music departments at Shorter College in Arkansas (1906-1910), and Clark University in Georgia (1910-1912). Florence was the first African American woman to achieve national recognition for her accomplishments as a symphonic composer.
