celebrASIA Workshop: Create a Handcrafted Pewter Bowl with Royal Selangor
About this Event
Tap into your creativity and dive into the art of pewter smithing at the School of Hard Knocks with Royal Selangor!
This hands-on workshop at celebrASIA is suitable for all ages (4+) and invites you to transform a flat pewter disc into a beautiful bowl using traditional tools and techniques, just like the artisans of over a century ago. Guided step-by-step by an expert pewter artisan, you’ll quickly pick up the basics of pewter smithing and walk away with a skill and a story you’ll be proud to share.
Feel the joy of crafting something truly your own. From the first satisfying strike of the hammer to the final polished curve, you’ll experience the joy of bringing your creation to life. To remember the day, you’ll take home your handcrafted dish, a stylish apron, and a certificate, perfect for proudly showing off your newfound skills.
About your hosts: In 1885, a young pewtersmith named Yong Koon arrived in Malaya from the Chinese port of Shantou, armed with little more than a set of tools and a determination to succeed. Today, Yong Koon's humble enterprise is Royal Selangor, the world's foremost name in quality pewter.
Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Royal Selangor has standalone stores in top retail capitals around the world, including London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Pushing the boundaries of pewter through collaborations with artists, designers, organisations and museums from around the world, all products combine the tradition of craftsmanship with modern techniques, from home and personal accessories to collectables and bespoke designs.
