What could be better than a big old Ceilidh knees-up with a cracking band, callers + a pop-up bar? We cannae imagine... except maybe a ceilidh that mixes the good old Scottish dances with dances + live trad music from other countries, too! Ceilidh Plus is not only a great chance to dance your wee heart out at an open ceilidh. It's the time to meet people and get to know dances and tunes from all o'er the place.BOOK NOW: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/edinburgh/community-church-edinburgh-kings-hall/ceilidh-plus-enjoy-ceilidh-dances-and-tunes-from-scotland-china-and-the-usa/e-rrokka
Our first Ceilidh Plus spotlights dances from China and the USA alongside the normal Ceilidh stuff. We will have a Chinese Opera band plus American line dancing. If this sounds crazy, that's because it is! It's gonna be completely radge and you don't want to miss your only chance to learn Chinese square dancing on the same night as dancing a Cumberland Square Eight. Boom! Come, dance, get involved at a ceilidh with a difference.
Curated and hosted by our dance musician-in-residence Chris Lyons, this first Ceilidh Plus night will get you dancing to live trad music with Morag Brown (fiddle), Marina Sharp (Ceilidh dance caller), Jack Weir (guitar), Angel Godwin (American Country Line dance caller), Yuxi Jiang, Tony Chen & Yanmei Bowie (Chinese Square dance callers), Eddie McGuire (Chinese bamboo flute), Chenhao Wang (two-stringed Chinese fiddle) and Tai Shing Lin (Chinese dulcimer percussion).
Expect also a Ceilidh Plus-themed pop-up drinks and food bar by the local award-winning establishment Taste of Home. If that's not enough, this first-ever Ceilidh Plus is just one of the highlights in our Ten out of Ten series of events this winter with which we mark our 10th birthday!
We are grateful for the support from Creative Scotland through TASGADH (Traditional Arts Small Grants) towards this first Ceilidh Plus, with all the proceeds reinvested in our efforts to diversify the traditional dance practised across Scotland and co-curate more Ceilidh Plus events.
