In PORTRAIT OF ARETHA, CeCe Teneal honors the legacy of the Queen of Soul with personalized interpretations of both popular and deeper cuts from this 18-Grammy-Award-winning icon’s 50-year career, including “Chain of Fools,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Rock Steady,” and “Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)." An award-winning songstress in her own right, Ms. Teneal has been nominated for four Independent Music Awards and claimed the title for 2011 Best Gospel Song (“I Heard You Prayin’”) and 2011 Best R&B Album (Train from Osteen), as well as 2018 Best Soul/Funk/Fusion Song ("Danger"). PERFORMER BIO:
CeCe Teneal is a consummate performer who believes in the power of music to connect people, whether there are five or five thousand in the audience. Born in the small town of Osteen, Florida, just outside Orlando, CeCe never envisioned herself as a performer. However, having inherited her incredible voice from her mother, the universe clearly had different plans for her.
With a career that has taken her to over 55 countries, CeCe has had the privilege of opening for legendary artists like Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Joe Cocker, and Fantasia. Today, she shares her soulful and funky originals, alongside a heartfelt celebration of Aretha Franklin's timeless music, captivating audiences at performing arts centers across the United States and onboard luxury cruise lines.
CeCe’s musical journey has not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous accolades, including nominations for four Independent Music Awards, winning Best Gospel Song and Best R&B Album in 2011, as well as Best Soul/Funk/Fusion Song in 2018. Her band was named Orlando’s Best Live Band from 2008 to 2010, and she was honored with the Orlando Music Trailblazer Award in 2017. In recognition of her contributions to arts and entertainment, September 17th was proclaimed Annual CeCe Teneal Day by Mayor Buddy Dyer and Mayor Jerry Demmings in Orlando and Orange County. In 2023, CeCe was celebrated by the Orlando Magic as a Diversity Game Changer for her philanthropic efforts in Central Florida.
Beyond her musical achievements, CeCe is deeply committed to her community. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Pace Center for Girls, Central Florida Community Arts, and 26 Health. As the Entertainment Director for Fusion Fest, she collaborates with artists from over 110 countries to showcase their vibrant cultural entertainment. CeCe is also the founder of Brown Girls Sing, an organization dedicated to empowering young singers aged 8-18.
With each performance and each connection, CeCe Teneal continues to inspire and uplift, breaking down barriers and bringing people together through her music and community initiatives.
