The Coopersville Community Concert Band will be wrapping up our 20th season with a selection of exciting music and a big sound. Conducted by Luanne DeVries, the CCCB will be performing a variety of favorites. As this will be a collage concert, many members will be performing in several small instrumental ensemble and solo groups, featuring flutes, clarinets, double reeds, horns, and more.
Our trumpet section will be highlighted in the Leroy Anderson favorite, “Bugler's Holiday”, and our percussion section will bring excitement to Brian Balmages’ “Arabian Dances”. The band will also be performing our very own commissioned piece, “Shadowdances”, inspired by the Coopersville community and composed by Kent Boulton.
Additionally, the band will perform the famous “Finale from The New World Symphony”, by Anton Dvorak (transcribed by Erik W. G. Leidzen), the toe-tapping “Bullets and Bayonets” march, by John Philip Sousa, the refreshing, “When The Spring Rain Begins to Fall…”, by Randall D. Standrige, and the energetic medley, “Mancini!”, arranged by Alfred Reed, which is comprised of a few of Henry Mancini’s most popular works, such as “Moon River”, and “Baby Elephant Walk”.
The concert will take place at Coopersville High School’s Centerstage Theatre on Monday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, and all are invited to attend.
The CCCB is an adult band, 50+ members strong, and we rehearse in the Coopersville High School Band Room on Monday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The group covers expenses by accepting individual donations given by generous community members and grants from local community groups. Thank you for your support!
A pre-concert 20th Anniversary Celebration will be held by the Coopersville Area Arts Council from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and musical entertainment from our local student musicians. Donations will be accepted at the reception to support the CAAC student scholarship fund.
