About this Event

CBAR Symposium - Action-Research Dialogue in Parc-Extension

[English will follow]

Since the beginning of the Community-Based Action Research (CBAR) Network in Parc-Extension, particular attention has been given to community-based research in the neighbourhood, with a strong emphasis on socially just, ethical, and relevant research practices. Over the past few years, many researchers have joined CBAR with the goal of better understanding community needs and concerns, and of reshaping their work accordingly. Researchers have been listening to the voices of community groups, while community groups have actively collaborated with researchers by supporting, engaging in, and contributing to research processes.

In this spirit, CBAR is pleased to use its collective capacity to create a space that brings together researchers who have worked in the neighbourhood with residents and community organizers over the last few years. This moment of exchange will allow participants to discuss the types of research that have taken place in Parc-Extension, as well as the prospects and priorities for future research. In this regard, CBAR invites you to its first symposium for sharing and exchange of research conducted in the neighbourhood, entitled Action-Research Dialogue in Parc-Extension: A Neighbourhood Under Pressure Yet United.

For many years, Parc-Extension has been subject to pressures related to gentrification and displacement. Residents experience various forms of eviction-related pressures, whether legal, food-related, housing-related, or health-related. Yet Parc-Ex stands out for its strong culture of solidarity, where groups mobilize to support one another through diverse, multiple, and unique roles and practices. Through this event, we aim to explore how different research initiatives have addressed a range of issues and to collectively reshape directions for future research. You are invited to this symposium to engage in dialogue around innovative research findings and community-based practices, and to collectively reflect on what community-anchored action research means to us. Don’t miss this event on Thursday, April 16, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at Brique par Brique.

Networking, refreshements and snacks to follow!
