Freshwater Champions Aotearoa New Zealand celebrates individuals and communities who are helping to restore and protect the health of our freshwater.
The 2024 Freshwater Champions will be announced at our inaugural Freshwater Champions Forum at Te Papa in Wellington on Thursday 23 May. We warmly invite you to join us at this free, celebratory event.
Our assessors have completed the enormous task of reviewing more than 50 nominations from throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. These included emerging and established catchment groups, outstanding individuals and advocates, as well as agencies doing great on-the-ground mahi to improve water quality.
Our inaugural Freshwater Champions Forum on 23 May will begin at 2pm with an official welcome followed by two panel discussions;
* How can catchment groups engage, inspire and leverage for future impact? Chaired by Landcare Trust CEO Nick Edgar
* Science on the ground – what science can bring to catchment care and how to access it. Chaired by Secretary for the Environment and Ministry for the Environment CE James Palmer.
The forum will conclude with the announcement of the 2024 Freshwater Champions and a celebratory joint networking function with attendees from the two-day Our Land and Water Symposium which is being held in the same venue.
Registration is essential. Tickets are limited and registration closes on 14 May.
