Cattail Hat Workshop

Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture

A woven hat is an upside down basket for your head! Discover the craft of weaving using cattails. In this hands-on class, participants weave wild-harvested cattail leaves into a beautiful, functional hat. Basic weaving techniques and patterns along with the freedom to explore your personal style and creativity will consume this 2 day workshop at PMRCAA!

All materials will be provided.

For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.

About the Instructor:

Sylvia Friday is an itinerant basket maker, folk artist, storyteller and teacher. Gathering sticks and sharing stories, She tends wild plants and teaches basketry up and down the west coast. The spirit of her work is woven from her relationship with plants and animals and from her experience of the generosity and poetry alive in the natural world. She loves to help people develop a relationship with cattail and with their hands. The process of weaving a basket is a reflection of our time and attention. A basket asks us, what holds us? What holds our attention? What holds our reverence?

- $20 cancellation fee

- 0% refund for cancellations less than 1 week before the workshop

- 50% refund for cancellations 7-14 days prior

- Full refunds will be provided if PMRCAA cancels the event due to inclement weather or if an instructor is unavailable.
