About this Event

A Q&A Panel will follow the March 18th film screening with the filmmaker, Sarah Uwadiae.

On Saturday, the 18th of March 2023, we will be screening the Telus STORYHIVE funded docu-series Catharsis created and directed by Sarah Uwadiae.

This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening of live music, spoken word poetry and film, and engage with the filmmaker about the creative process and the intention and reality behind the film.

Filmed here in Mohkinstsis - Calgary, this female-led documentary tackles the stigmatization of mental health and therapy in many Black and African communities and creates a safe space for African immigrants to process racial trauma through counselling.

This is a can't-miss event that seeks to inspire conversations about mental health in African and Black immigrant communities in Canada, demystify the process of therapy and bring accessibility to culturally appropriate mental health resources to the fore front.

Join us to screen this documentary and experience a collective Catharsis in Burnswest Theatre, Fort Calgary at 7pm. An evening of live music, spoken word and community impact through the power of storytelling and dialogue.

Admission is $15.00 and includes a drink, red carpet and fresh hors d'oeuvres!

The dress code for this event is "Red Carpet Classy" (whatever that means to you)!
