About this Event

SAT, JUN 26, 2021

With its unspoiled natural beauty and relaxed island charm, Catalina is truly a Pacific island paradise. Travel by motor coach to Newport Beach where you'll board the triple-deck Catalina Flyer for a smooth 75-minute cruise to the island. En route to Catalina, you’ll have an opportunity to purchase optional activities, such as a scenic tour of Avalon, a glass-bottom boat tour, an inland tour where you could see roaming wild American buffalo and other options. Once on the island, you’ll have five hours to enjoy lunch on your own and experience a variety of what Catalina has to offer, all within walking distance from the dock. Explore the quaint village boutiques, enjoy a famous bison burger on the pier, take a walking tour of the 1929 art deco Catalina Casino ballroom and theater, or simply relax with a cool Mai Tai and a good book amid the scenic island beauty.

This tour is led by Tour Guide Christina Koohmarey.

Christina grew up in Germany and holds a BA in Hotel Management from Switzerland as well as a Hospitality Supervisor Certification from the American Hotel & Motel Association. Growing up in Germany where traveling is a regular way of life, her zest for travel was fostered from an early age. Speaking fluent German and being able to communicate in English, French and Spanish has helped her to travel outside the tourist destinations and connect on a local level with people from all kinds of different cultures.

Besides visiting all the European Countries, her extensive travels include watching the most spectacular sunrise atop the Great Wall of China, climbing the steps of Chichen Itza, admiring the incredible artwork at the Heremitage in San Petersburg as well as roaming the mysterious bazaars of Shiraz and Isfahan. Her work in the hospitality industry made her a temporary native to Puerto Rico, Colorado and Maui. An offer to manage a European Inn in La Jolla brought her to Southern California in 1986 and she immediately realized that San Diego would become her home. In 1991, she married and raised two wonderful sons. In her free time, Christina grows her own fruits and vegetables and is an accomplished cook who loves to entertain family and friends. She is an active beach volleyball player and skier, loves to dance and she never says no to a great game of backgammon or billiards.

Christina’s passion for travel led her to join the DayTripper Tours team in March of 2013. She is also a member of the San Diego Professional Tour Guide Association. Her personal motto is "Live life to the fullest one day at a time."

COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY**

The health and safety of our passengers and crew are our first priority, and the DayTripper Tours COVID safety protocols are guided by science and the latest CDC recommendations. We anticipate current restrictions will gradually ease in the months ahead; however, as of this writing, below is what you can expect. Since you are the booking client, it is vital that you share this information with each traveling companion on your reservation.

WHAT WE'RE DOING TO HELP PROTECT YOU

  • All travelers should be fully vaccinated before traveling with us.*
  • Coaches will be at reduced capacity. We will operate our standard full-size motor coaches with lowered capacity and staggered seating to accommodate distancing. Couples and small groups traveling together will be seated together. (Please note: Seating capacity for your tour may increase if conditions improve and restrictions are lifted.)
  • Masks will be required at all times while on the coach except when eating or drinking. For safety reasons our snack and beverage service on the coach has been suspended for the time being; however, you may bring your own.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at the doorway steps and upon request.
  • Tour guides will be fully vaccinated and will wear a face covering onboard the coach.

WHAT THE BUS COMPANY IS DOING TO HELP PROTECT YOU

  • All motor coaches have been fitted with highest efficiency MERV-13 ventilation filters.
  • A thorough disinfecting regimen is completed with electrostatic spraying prior to each trip.
  • Safe, hospital-grade Vital Oxide is used along with common disinfectants to sterilize touch surfaces.
  • Drivers must pass a temperature screening prior to each shift.
  • Drivers wear a face mask at all times onboard the coach and an acrylic safety barrier separates the driver from passengers. The first row of seating behind the driver will remain unoccupied throughout each trip.
  • Touch surfaces throughout the coach are disinfected each time passengers get off the bus.
  • Hand sanitizer is available upon request.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS

Again, the health and well-being of our passengers and crew is our highest priority, and we’ll do our part to help keep you safe. But we need your participation, too, and ask for your cooperation in our efforts to help keep you and others safe:**

  • Postpone traveling with us until you are fully vaccinated.
  • Wear a face covering at all times while on the coach except when eating or drinking.
  • Occupy only the coach seat assigned to you in order to maintain distancing.
  • Carry a personal hand sanitizer with you and use it often.

*Currently, there is no standardized, foolproof credential proving a person has been vaccinated, so we are unable to implement a verification process at this time. Meanwhile, we kindly ask that you avoid traveling with us until after you are fully vaccinated, and if you are unable to adhere to established safety protocols throughout the duration of a tour, please avoid traveling with us until after the pandemic has officially ended. DayTripper’s virtual tour library will remain a fun alternative for those not yet ready to travel.

**Similar to an airline crew, the tour guide and driver are the ultimate authority onboard a tour bus and guests who fail to comply with established protocols and instructions can be expelled from the tour and will be responsible for securing their own transportation home at their own expense. In such a case, the tour would be non-refundable and the traveler(s) would be unable to travel with DayTripper Tours in the future.
